What is Thyroid Antibodies (Anti-TPO & Anti-Tg)?
Detects antibodies against thyroid peroxidase (TPO) and thyroglobulin (Tg). Identifies autoimmune thyroid disease — the most common cause of hypothyroidism and hyperthyroidism.
Why is this test important?
Anti-TPO is positive in >90% of Hashimoto thyroiditis and 70% of Graves disease. Positive antibodies predict future thyroid dysfunction even when current thyroid levels are normal.
