What is ANA (Antinuclear Antibody)?
Screens for autoimmune diseases by detecting antibodies that attack the cell nucleus. A positive ANA is found in lupus, Sjogren syndrome, scleroderma, and other autoimmune conditions.
Why is this test important?
ANA is a screening test — positive results need further workup with specific antibodies (anti-dsDNA, anti-Smith, etc.). Up to 15% of healthy people have low-titer positive ANA.
How to Prepare
No special preparation required.
