What is SMITH (Sm) IgG ANTIBODIES?

This test measures the level of Smith (Sm) IgG antibodies in your blood. Sm antibodies are a specific type of autoantibody, which are proteins produced by the immune system that mistakenly target the body's own tissues.

Why is this test important?

The presence of Sm antibodies is a strong indicator for Systemic Lupus Erythematosus (SLE), an autoimmune disease. This test helps in diagnosing SLE, especially when other symptoms are present, and can differentiate it from other autoimmune conditions. It's a key marker for confirming the diagnosis.
