What is Cardiolipin Antibodies - IgM, Serum?

The Cardiolipin Antibodies (IgM) test checks for IgM antibodies that target cardiolipin, a lipid found in cell membranes. While these antibodies can be transiently present due to infections, persistent elevated levels may suggest an autoimmune condition like Antiphospholipid Syndrome (APS).

Why is this test important?

Elevated IgM cardiolipin antibodies, especially when persistent, can be part of the diagnostic criteria for Antiphospholipid Syndrome, indicating an increased risk for blood clots and pregnancy complications. This test helps in the comprehensive assessment of autoimmune conditions.
