What is Prolactin?
Measures prolactin hormone produced by the pituitary gland. Important for evaluating menstrual irregularities, infertility, galactorrhea, and pituitary tumors.
Why is this test important?
Elevated prolactin (hyperprolactinemia) can cause irregular periods, infertility, and galactorrhea in women, and low testosterone and erectile dysfunction in men.
How to Prepare
Avoid breast stimulation and exercise before the test. Best drawn in the morning. Fasting not required but avoid heavy meals.
