What is Myoglobin, Urine?

This urine test measures myoglobin, a protein released from damaged muscles. When muscle damage is severe, myoglobin can be filtered by the kidneys and appear in the urine.

Why is this test important?

Detecting myoglobin in urine (myoglobinuria) is a strong indicator of significant muscle breakdown, such as rhabdomyolysis. It's important for assessing kidney risk associated with severe muscle injury.
