What is Lipoprotein(a)?

Measures Lipoprotein(a), a genetically determined lipoprotein that is an independent risk factor for cardiovascular disease and aortic valve stenosis.

Why is this test important?

Lp(a) levels are 80-90% genetically determined and do not respond to diet or exercise. Elevated Lp(a) > 50 mg/dL significantly increases heart attack and stroke risk. Testing once in a lifetime is usually sufficient.

How to Prepare

Fasting for 12 hours required.
