What is Cyfra 21 - 1, Serum?

The Cyfra 21-1 test measures the level of a protein fragment called cytokeratin 19 in your blood serum. This protein is released by certain types of cancer cells and is used as a tumor marker, primarily for monitoring purposes.

Why is this test important?

This test is clinically significant in monitoring the progression of non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) and sometimes bladder cancer. It helps doctors assess the effectiveness of treatment, detect recurrence, or evaluate disease progression, but it is not used for cancer screening.

How to Prepare
