What is CEA (Carcinoembryonic Antigen)?

Measures CEA, a protein that can be elevated in colorectal, lung, breast, and other cancers. Primarily used for monitoring cancer treatment response and detecting recurrence.

Why is this test important?

CEA is not specific enough for screening but valuable for monitoring. Rising CEA after cancer treatment suggests recurrence. Smokers may have mildly elevated baseline levels.
