What is Oral Glucose Tolerance Test (OGTT)?
A two-step test where blood glucose is measured fasting and then 2 hours after drinking a glucose solution. The gold standard for diagnosing gestational diabetes and glucose intolerance.
Why is this test important?
OGTT is more sensitive than fasting glucose alone for detecting impaired glucose tolerance. Standard screening for gestational diabetes at 24-28 weeks. 2-hour value >= 200 mg/dL confirms diabetes.
How to Prepare
Fast for 10-12 hours. Eat normally for 3 days before. You will need to stay at the lab for 2 hours.
