What is KAPPA / LAMBDA LIGHT CHAINS RATIO, SERUM?

This test measures the levels of two types of proteins, Kappa and Lambda light chains, in your blood and calculates their ratio. These proteins are components of antibodies and are produced by plasma cells in your bone marrow.

Why is this test important?

An abnormal Kappa/Lambda ratio can indicate an overproduction of one type of light chain, which is often a sign of plasma cell disorders like multiple myeloma or amyloidosis. It helps in diagnosis, monitoring, and assessing treatment effectiveness.
