What is D-Dimer?
Measures a protein fragment produced when a blood clot dissolves. Elevated levels may indicate abnormal blood clotting activity in conditions like deep vein thrombosis (DVT) or pulmonary embolism.
Why is this test important?
D-Dimer has high negative predictive value — a normal result effectively rules out DVT and pulmonary embolism. Elevated levels require further imaging. Also elevated in DIC, surgery, and pregnancy.
How to Prepare
No special preparation required.
