What is Immunoglobulin M (IgM), Serum?

This test measures the level of Immunoglobulin M (IgM) antibodies in your blood serum. IgM is one of the first antibodies your body produces to fight new infections, playing a crucial role in your immune system's initial response.

Why is this test important?

Elevated IgM levels can indicate a recent or ongoing acute infection, or certain autoimmune diseases. Conversely, low levels might suggest an immune deficiency. This test helps assess immune function and diagnose various conditions.
