What is Hepatitis Delta virus (HDV) HDV-total antibody?

This test detects all types of antibodies (IgM and IgG) to the Hepatitis Delta Virus (HDV) in your blood. It's a screening tool to determine if you have ever been exposed to HDV, which only affects individuals with Hepatitis B.

Why is this test important?

Total HDV antibodies are used for initial screening to identify individuals who have been exposed to HDV, either acutely or chronically. A positive result warrants further specific testing to differentiate between active and past infection.
