What is Glutamic Acid Decarboxylase (GAD-65) Antibodies?

This test detects antibodies against Glutamic Acid Decarboxylase (GAD-65), an enzyme found in the pancreas and brain. The presence of these antibodies suggests an autoimmune response targeting insulin-producing cells. It helps identify certain autoimmune conditions.

Why is this test important?

GAD-65 antibodies are a key marker for autoimmune diabetes, particularly Type 1 diabetes and Latent Autoimmune Diabetes in Adults (LADA). Detecting these antibodies helps differentiate autoimmune diabetes from Type 2 diabetes, guiding appropriate treatment and management strategies.
