What is G6PD Deficiency Screening?

Screens for Glucose-6-Phosphate Dehydrogenase deficiency, one of the most common enzyme disorders worldwide and particularly prevalent in the Middle East, Africa, and Southeast Asia.

Why is this test important?

G6PD deficiency is X-linked and very common in UAE nationals and Middle Eastern populations. Affected individuals are at risk of hemolytic anemia triggered by certain medications, foods (fava beans), or infections.
