What is Factor XII Activity?

The Factor XII Activity test measures the function of Factor XII, a protein involved in the initial stages of blood clot formation. While a deficiency often doesn't cause bleeding, it can lead to prolonged clotting times in lab tests.

Why is this test important?

A Factor XII deficiency is usually asymptomatic and not associated with bleeding, but it can sometimes be linked to an increased risk of thrombosis (blood clots). It's often investigated when other clotting tests are abnormal.
