What is DIRECT COOMBS TEST?
The Direct Coombs Test, also known as the Direct Antiglobulin Test (DAT), checks for antibodies that are attached to the surface of your red blood cells. These antibodies can sometimes cause red blood cells to be destroyed.
Why is this test important?
This test is crucial for diagnosing various conditions where red blood cells are prematurely destroyed, such as autoimmune hemolytic anemia, certain drug-induced anemias, and hemolytic disease of the newborn. It helps identify the cause of anemia.
