What is D3-Hydroxybutyrate (Ketone body)?

This test measures the level of D3-Hydroxybutyrate, the main ketone body, in your blood. Ketone bodies are produced when your body breaks down fat for energy instead of glucose, often due to insufficient insulin or carbohydrate intake.

Why is this test important?

Elevated D3-Hydroxybutyrate levels can indicate diabetic ketoacidosis (DKA), a serious complication of diabetes, or other conditions causing excessive fat breakdown. It's vital for diagnosing and monitoring these metabolic imbalances.
