What is Chylomicron Qualitative?

The Chylomicron Qualitative test is a blood test that checks for the presence of chylomicrons, which are large fat-carrying particles that appear in your blood after eating fatty foods. It helps assess how your body processes dietary fats.

Why is this test important?

This test is used to evaluate disorders of lipid metabolism, particularly chylomicronemia syndrome. Its presence in a fasting blood sample is abnormal and can indicate a genetic defect in fat processing, leading to very high triglyceride levels and increased risk of pancreatitis.

How to Prepare

Fasting for 12-14 hours is typically required before this blood test. Only water is allowed during the fasting period.
