What is BILIRUBIN DIRECT?

This blood test measures direct (conjugated) bilirubin, a waste product formed when red blood cells break down. Direct bilirubin is processed by the liver and then excreted. High levels can signal problems with the liver's ability to excrete bile.

Why is this test important?

Elevated direct bilirubin levels are often associated with conditions like bile duct obstruction (e.g., gallstones, tumors), hepatitis, or other liver diseases. It helps pinpoint issues occurring after bilirubin has been processed by the liver.

How to Prepare
