What is Anti VGKC antibodies serum?

This test detects antibodies against voltage-gated potassium channels (VGKC) in the blood. These antibodies can disrupt nerve cell function and are associated with a range of autoimmune neurological conditions affecting the brain and peripheral nerves.

Why is this test important?

Anti-VGKC antibodies (specifically targeting LGI1 and CASPR2 proteins) are crucial markers for autoimmune encephalitis, Morvan's syndrome, and neuromyotonia. Identifying these antibodies helps in diagnosing these conditions and guiding appropriate immunotherapy.
