What is AMYLASE SERUM?

The Amylase Serum test measures the level of amylase, an enzyme primarily produced by the pancreas and salivary glands, in your blood. It plays a key role in digesting carbohydrates.

Why is this test important?

Elevated amylase levels often indicate inflammation or damage to the pancreas, such as in pancreatitis, or blockages in the pancreatic ducts. It can also be elevated in other conditions affecting the salivary glands or abdomen, aiding in diagnosis and monitoring.

How to Prepare

You may be asked to fast for a few hours before the test. Please follow specific instructions from your healthcare provider.

Do I need to fast before my blood test?▼
It depends on the test. Tests like lipid profile and fasting blood sugar require 10-12 hours of fasting. Tests like CBC, vitamin D, and thyroid do not require fasting. Each test page on our website clearly states the fasting requirements.
How soon will I receive my results?▼
Most routine tests have results within 24-48 hours. Some specialized tests take longer. Each test page shows its expected turnaround time, and we will let you know when your report is ready.
