What is Alpha Glucosidase GSD II / pompe?

This blood test measures the activity of the alpha-glucosidase enzyme, which is essential for breaking down glycogen, a complex sugar stored in your cells. A deficiency in this enzyme can lead to glycogen accumulation.

Why is this test important?

Low alpha-glucosidase activity indicates Pompe disease (Glycogen Storage Disease Type II), a rare genetic disorder. This condition causes glycogen to build up in muscles, leading to progressive muscle weakness, breathing difficulties, and heart problems.
