What is ADA Adenosine Deaminase Pleural Fluid?

The ADA Pleural Fluid test measures the level of Adenosine Deaminase, an enzyme, in the fluid surrounding your lungs (pleural fluid). This test is used to help determine the cause of fluid accumulation around the lungs, known as pleural effusion.

Why is this test important?

High ADA levels in pleural fluid are a strong indicator of tuberculous pleurisy, an infection of the lung lining. It's a crucial tool for diagnosing tuberculosis in the chest and guiding specific antitubercular treatment.
