What is ADA Adenosine Deaminase Peritoneal Fluid?

The ADA Peritoneal Fluid test measures the level of Adenosine Deaminase, an enzyme, in the fluid surrounding your abdominal organs (peritoneal fluid). This test helps doctors investigate the cause of fluid buildup in the abdomen, known as ascites.

Why is this test important?

Elevated ADA levels in peritoneal fluid can indicate an infection, particularly peritoneal tuberculosis, which is a serious condition. It aids in differentiating tuberculous peritonitis from other causes of ascites, guiding appropriate treatment decisions.
