What is Acid lipase disorder Wolman diseaase?

This test helps diagnose Wolman disease, a rare genetic disorder caused by a deficiency of the enzyme lysosomal acid lipase (LAL). This deficiency leads to the harmful accumulation of fats (lipids) in various organs, particularly the liver, spleen, and adrenal glands.

Why is this test important?

Early diagnosis of Wolman disease is critical for managing its severe symptoms, which can include malabsorption, liver failure, and adrenal insufficiency, often leading to life-threatening complications in infancy. The test confirms the enzyme deficiency, guiding treatment and genetic counseling.
