What is 24 Hrs Urinary Amylase?

Amylase is an enzyme primarily produced by the pancreas and salivary glands, aiding in carbohydrate digestion. This test measures the total amount of amylase excreted in your urine over a 24-hour period, providing insight into its continuous production and clearance.

Why is this test important?

This test is useful in diagnosing and monitoring conditions affecting the pancreas, such as pancreatitis (inflammation of the pancreas). It can also help evaluate pancreatic function and detect certain pancreatic disorders, especially when blood amylase levels are inconclusive.

How to Prepare

You will need to collect all urine passed over a full 24-hour period into a special container. No special dietary restrictions are usually required, but follow any specific instructions from your healthcare provider.

It depends on the test. Tests like lipid profile and fasting blood sugar require 10-12 hours of fasting. Tests like CBC, vitamin D, and thyroid do not require fasting. Each test page on our website clearly states the fasting requirements.
