What is Typhoid (Widal Test)?

Detects antibodies against Salmonella typhi bacteria that causes typhoid fever. Relevant for travelers and residents with prolonged fever, especially after visiting endemic countries.

Why is this test important?

Widal test detects agglutinating antibodies against O and H antigens. Rising titers in paired samples 1-2 weeks apart are more diagnostic than single tests. Blood culture is more definitive.
