What is Tuberculosis QuantiFERON (TB Gold)?

A blood test that detects tuberculosis infection by measuring the immune response to TB-specific proteins. More specific than the traditional skin test (PPD/Mantoux).

Why is this test important?

QuantiFERON does not cross-react with BCG vaccination (unlike PPD skin test), making it ideal for UAE's BCG-vaccinated population. A positive result indicates TB infection but not necessarily active disease.

How to Prepare

No special preparation. Blood must be processed within 16 hours of collection.
