What is TPMT GENOTYPING AND TOXICITY TEST?

The TPMT Genotyping and Toxicity Test analyzes your genes to determine how your body processes certain medications, specifically thiopurines. This test helps predict your risk of severe side effects from these drugs, which are used to treat conditions like inflammatory bowel disease and some cancers.

Why is this test important?

Individuals with reduced TPMT enzyme activity are at a higher risk of developing severe toxicity when taking standard doses of thiopurine drugs. This test allows doctors to personalize drug dosages, ensuring effective treatment while minimizing adverse reactions.
