What is AFB SECOND LINE DRUG- GENOTYPIC ASSAY (Note: This test is not applicable for MOTT)?

This genotypic assay is used to detect resistance of Acid-Fast Bacilli (AFB) to second-line anti-tuberculosis drugs. It provides critical information when initial treatments are ineffective or if multi-drug resistance is suspected. This test is specifically for Mycobacterium tuberculosis and not for other mycobacteria (MOTT).

Why is this test important?

Understanding resistance to second-line drugs is essential for patients with complex or resistant forms of tuberculosis. This test guides clinicians in selecting alternative and more effective treatment regimens, which is vital for managing difficult-to-treat TB cases and preventing further disease progression.
