What is Tau protein, total in CSF (tTau)?

The Total Tau (tTau) protein test measures the level of tau protein in your cerebrospinal fluid (CSF), which surrounds your brain and spinal cord. Tau proteins are normally found in brain cells, but elevated levels in CSF can indicate neuronal damage or degeneration.

Why is this test important?

This test is primarily used to help diagnose and monitor neurodegenerative conditions, particularly Alzheimer's disease, where abnormal tau protein accumulation is a hallmark. It can also aid in differentiating Alzheimer's from other forms of dementia or neurological disorders.

How to Prepare
