What is Mycoplasma hominis PCR?

This test identifies the DNA of Mycoplasma hominis, a type of bacteria commonly found in the genitourinary tract. It helps determine if this bacterium is causing an infection, particularly when symptoms are present or other causes have been ruled out.

Why is this test important?

While often harmless, Mycoplasma hominis can sometimes cause genitourinary infections like urethritis, bacterial vaginosis, or even more serious conditions such as pelvic inflammatory disease. It's also associated with complications in pregnancy.
