What is JC (John Cunningham ) Virus Polioma Quantitative, CSF?

This test measures the amount of JC (John Cunningham) virus DNA in your cerebrospinal fluid (CSF). It helps assess the viral load, which is important for monitoring active infection in the central nervous system.

Why is this test important?

The JC virus can cause a serious brain infection called Progressive Multifocal Leukoencephalopathy (PML), especially in individuals with weakened immune systems. This test is crucial for diagnosing PML and monitoring treatment effectiveness.
