What is Herpes Simplex 1 & 2 (IgG/IgM)?
Detects antibodies against Herpes Simplex Virus types 1 (oral) and 2 (genital). Type-specific testing distinguishes between HSV-1 and HSV-2 infection.
Why is this test important?
HSV-2 IgG indicates genital herpes. HSV-1 can cause both oral and genital herpes. IgM may indicate recent primary infection but can also appear in reactivation.
