What is Fecal Pancreatic Elastase?

The Fecal Pancreatic Elastase test measures the level of elastase, an enzyme produced by your pancreas, in a stool sample. This test helps assess how well your pancreas is functioning.

Why is this test important?

Low levels of fecal pancreatic elastase can indicate exocrine pancreatic insufficiency, a condition where the pancreas doesn't produce enough enzymes for proper digestion. It's useful in diagnosing chronic pancreatitis or cystic fibrosis.
