What is ERYTHROPOIETIN (ANTI EPO) ANTIBODIES?

This test detects antibodies that target erythropoietin (EPO), a hormone crucial for red blood cell production. These antibodies can interfere with the body's natural EPO or administered EPO, potentially leading to anemia.

Why is this test important?

The presence of anti-EPO antibodies is primarily associated with pure red cell aplasia (PRCA), a rare but serious side effect in patients treated with recombinant human erythropoietin (rHuEPO). This test helps diagnose the cause of PRCA and guides treatment decisions.
