What is Beta Amyloid 42/40 Ratio, CSF?

This test measures the ratio of two specific forms of beta-amyloid proteins (Aβ42 and Aβ40) in your cerebrospinal fluid (CSF). An altered ratio can indicate changes in the brain associated with certain neurodegenerative diseases.

Why is this test important?

A decreased Aβ42/Aβ40 ratio in CSF is a key biomarker for Alzheimer's disease, as it reflects the accumulation of amyloid plaques in the brain. It aids in the early diagnosis and differential diagnosis of dementia.

How to Prepare

A lumbar puncture (spinal tap) is required to collect the CSF sample. Your doctor will provide specific instructions regarding this procedure.
