What is BCR-ABL FISH?

The BCR-ABL FISH test uses a special technique called Fluorescence In Situ Hybridization (FISH) to detect a specific genetic change known as the BCR-ABL fusion gene. This gene is a hallmark of certain types of leukemia.

Why is this test important?

This test is crucial for diagnosing Chronic Myeloid Leukemia (CML) and some forms of Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia (ALL). It helps confirm the presence of the Philadelphia chromosome, which is vital for guiding treatment decisions and prognosis.
