What is 24 Hrs Urinary Chloride?

This test measures the amount of chloride excreted in your urine over a 24-hour period. Chloride is an important electrolyte that helps maintain fluid balance and proper acid-base balance in your body.

Why is this test important?

It is useful in evaluating electrolyte imbalances, kidney function, and conditions affecting fluid regulation, such as dehydration, heart failure, or certain kidney diseases. It helps assess how your kidneys are managing salt and water.

How to Prepare

You will need to collect all urine passed over a 24-hour period in a special container. Start by emptying your bladder and discarding that urine, then collect all subsequent urine for the next 24 hours, including the first urine the following morning. Keep the container refrigerated during collection.
